When facing an online attack, first and foremost, the best thing to do is to remain calm and not let emotions take control of your actions. The nature of these attacks means that the negative information is likely to spread rapidly on the internet, making any attempts to fight back only worsen the situation.

The first step is to identify what kind of attack your company is experiencing and where it originated from. Fake reviews, negative news, social media harassment, forums, smear campaigns, or other types of harmful content will require different approaches to dealing with them.

It’s rarely beneficial to ignore online negativity. Not only can it hurt the trust of potential clients, but it can continue causing problems in the future by showing up whenever someone searches your company’s name on Google. Dealing with attacks promptly is much more effective when it comes to preventing long-term consequences.

Some online attacks might be able to get deleted because of violation of the rules on the platforms in question. In addition to addressing the attacks themselves, online reputation management will help increase positive exposure and suppress any negativity.

Professional communication should not be ignored during a crisis situation. The customers tend to watch carefully the behavior of the company in the face of a crisis. Calmness and openness in response will significantly speed up the recovery process.

However, having a correct strategy, companies manage to get back on track after the crisis caused by Internet attacks.
